In 2021, Argentina updated its NDC, reaffirming its commitment to these targets and emphasizing the importance of adaptation measures to enhance resilience against climate impacts.
Long-Term Strategy and Net-Zero Target
Argentina has also developed a Long-Term Strategy (LTS) aiming to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. This strategy outlines pathways for deep decarbonization, emphasizing the transition to renewable energy sources, sustainable land use practices, and the promotion of low-carbon technologies. The LTS serves as a roadmap for aligning national development goals with climate objectives, ensuring a just and inclusive transition for all sectors of society.
Sectoral Action Plans
To operationalize its climate commitments, Argentina has developed sector-specific action plans. The National Plan for Energy and Climate Change focuses on increasing the use of renewable energy and improving energy efficiency. The National Plan for Transport and Climate Change aims to decarbonize the transport sector through policies for urban mobility and heavy vehicle transportation. Additionally, the National Agriculture and Climate Change Action Plan targets emission reductions in the agriculture sector by promoting carbon sequestration through agro-forestry and converting agricultural waste into energy.
